'Be Part of It' at Boarbank

At the end of October, 26 young people from our UK parishes and Austin Friars School met at Boarbank Hall, Cumbria in the north of England for a weekend entitled ‘Be Part of It - AYE London 2010’ We wanted to get together people from our province to tell them how they can be at the heart of the event and volunteer in all areas of the event.

Below, Megan Barzaq from Edinburgh tells us of her experience...

'As well as meeting the Augustinian Sisters in residence there, we all had a chance to get to know each other. After some late arrivals on the Friday night, the weekend was in full swing by Saturday where Fr. Gianni and Patrick Reynolds spoke to us about St. Augustine and how both friendship and God were very important to him during his life. After the chance of a walk to the nearby village, we all took part in some team building games, where some of the Sisters even joined in! Instead of watching X-Factor, we had a night of birthday cake (for Fr. George and I) some party games and, in Halloween tradition, ghost stories (the scariest ones coming from Austin Friars School). Before departures on Sunday, we were encouraged to sign up for AYE in ways that we thought would use our gifts in the best way possible.’

This weekend was great fun and a great success with many people in the UK now keen to sign-up as volunteers to help at the event with drama, sports activities, music, singing, organising, stage management and even cleaning up!!!
